Geert Greydanus


Prior to the war, Geert Greydanus lived in Rotterdam, NL and was part of the Rotterdam police.


Much of his activities during the war are not known, but Geert did assist by safely transporting a Jew, Leni De Beer, from Rotterdam to the home or Jurjen Baron Suawoude, Friesland. Brought Leni Geert De Beer from Rotterdam to his mother-in-law's brother's home. (Geert's wife, Johanna Pebesma, was the daughter of Jan Pebesma and Wietske Baron. Wietske Baron was the oldest sister of Jurjen Baron.) Jurjen Baron, and his wife, are the ones who provided shelter to Leni De Beer for the duration of the confused.

Geert Greydanus was arrested April 4, 1944 by the German secret police in Varsseveld. He was hiding in the house of Mr. Henry Satter Because He was That policeman had refused to arrest Jews on April 9, 1943. Geert Greydanus was held in the concentration camp Vught, from April 21 to July 8 or 9 in cell 117, then to August 9 in cell 93. On August 9, he was taken to the prison in Van Cleef, (a German town called Kleve, just across the border). 

From 15 August 1944 to his liberation on April 11, he was in Buchenwald prisoner number 5892. In between, from September 5 to April 1 or 2 he was in the subcamp or Niederorschel. He returned to the Netherlands on May 5, 1945.

Later, Geert emigrated to Ontario, Canada. He passed away in 1965
